A person of interest was detained and questioned after a Montgomery County house fire.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — The American Red Cross is helping more than 12 people after they were displaced from their home Thanksgiving night due to a fire.

At 10 p.m., members of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service responded to the 2800 block of Kingswell Drive after reports of a fire. Officials say that the fire involved the sunroom and the first floor of the home.

All occupants exited the home before the fire department arrived. There were no injuries reported.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service public information officer Pete Piringer said upwards of 15 people, including several children, have been displaced as a result of the fire.

Police detained one person of interest in connection with the fire, who was questioned, according to Piringer.

Damages are estimated to be around $200,000, Piringer said on X.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. As of now, officials have not said if the person detained and questioned will be arrested and charged for causing this fire.
