Fire drives family from Rockville home on eve of Thanksgiving holiday

The fire caused an estimated $20,000 in damage

ROCKVILLE, Md. — A day before many families are expected to give thanks, one Rockville family is out of their home. A fire broke out at a single-family home on Cedar Lane off Viers Mill Road around 6 a.m.

A spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services said initially one person was trapped. They later reported all occupants in the house had gotten out safely. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters say the fire broke out in an additional section of the house, in an area that was being renovated and under construction. Crews responded and were able to get the flames under control quickly.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. One family was displaced, and flames caused an estimated $20,000 in damages to the home, according to firefighters.

Additional details were not immediately available.
