The FBI and MPD are searching for the carjacker that hijacked a UDC Police Cruiser

The stolen gray 2020 Ford Explorer was located on North Capitol Street in NW.

WASHINGTON — D.C. Police are searching for a carjacker who stole a police cruiser belonging to the University of the District of Columbia Friday.

Law enforcement says they received a call at 3:45 a.m. that the car was taken from the Van Ness Campus. The stolen vehicle was a gray 2020 Ford Explorer with D.C. tags DC13764. It has UDC labeling on both of the front doors.

The cruiser was recovered Friday night, but the man is still on the loose.

Now, other agencies have gotten involved to launch an investigation into what happened leading up to the reported carjacking. The FBI and MPD say more information will be released as it becomes available.

If you have any information please call the police at 202-737-4404. If you wish to remain anonymous text the number 50411.

This is the third carjacking making headlines this week.

On Wednesday, an ambulance was stolen from the 3600 block of 22nd Street in Southeast. First responders were called to the scene for reports of a ‘person down’. While paramedics were inside treating the patient, a woman stole the ambulance. The carjacker has since been identified and arrested.

Earlier this week, a UPS truck was hijacked in Glenarden, Maryland at 2 p.m. Law enforcement has not made any arrests.

As the holiday season begins, carjackings and armed robberies are expected to increase across the DMV.
