Police: 26-year-old man found lying dead on ground after shooting in Triangle

Officers located shell casings in the roadway and a home in the Linden Park Apartment complex that was struck by gunfire.

TRIANGLE, Va. — Police are searching for the person responsible for shooting and killing a 26-year-old man in Triangle Tuesday night.

At 8:41 p.m., officers responded to the 3700 block of Wharf Lane in Triangle to investigate a shooting. Police say gunshots were heard in the area that struck a 26-year-old man. He was found lying on the ground by responding officers. 

Officers immediately provided aid to the man who was rushed to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries. He has since been identified as Quatrail Raynard Smalls of Big Stone Gap, Virginia. 

While checking the area of the shooting, officers located shell casings in the roadway on Wharf Lane and a home in the Linden Park Apartment complex that was struck by gunfire. 

Police say no other injuries or property damage was reported. 

Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding this shooting to contact police at 703-792-6500 or submit a tip online.
