ARLINGTON, Va. — A man is facing charges after police say he shot a teenager while working as a security guard at a vacant property in Arlington.

According to the Arlington County Police Department’s Homicide/Robbery Unit, 53-year-old Ahmed Namnoom of Laurel, Maryland, has been charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The shooting happened shortly before 4:30 p.m. Officers were called to the 1800 block of N. Lynn Street where they found a teenage boy had been shot. The teen was taken to an area hospital for help and is expected to survive.

Investigators claim Namnoom was working as a security guard at the former Key Bridge Marriott property on Langston Boulevard when a group of teens allegedly entered a fenced property and began wandering toward the vacant building. Namnoom drove towards the teen and got out of his car. He allegedly confronted them while holding a gun, later shooting and hitting the teen who ran away and called the police.

Namnoom was then arrested and is currently being held without bond at the Arlington County Detention Facility.

Detectives say the car is active and asks anyone with information to contact the Arlington County Police Department’s Homicide/Robbery Unit at 703-228-4180 or ACPDTipline@arlingtonva.us. Information may also be provided anonymously through the Arlington County Crime Solvers hotline at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).
