Man shot, killed in Southeast DC

According to crime data, this is the 240th homicide of the year in the District.

WASHINGTON — Police are investigating after a man was shot and killed in Southeast D.C. Monday morning. According to Metropolitan Police Department crime stats, this is the 240th homicide in the District in 2023. 

MPD officers were called to the shooting scene in the 400 block of Ridge Road Southeast, near Ely Place around 11:30 a.m. for the report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a man shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide detectives were called to the scene and are conducting an investigation. So far, no arrests have been made in connection to this shooting, and no suspect information has been made public. Police have not yet identified the man killed.

Investigators are still working to learn what led up to the shooting.

Homicides are up more than 30% over this same time last year. The police department is approaching the highest number of homicides in the District in 20 years. In 2003, there were 248 homicides in total.
