SILVER SPRING, Md. — Police are searching for a young man they say grabbed a woman while she was walking on Sligo Creek Parkway in Silver Spring Sunday afternoon.
According to Maryland-National Capital Park Police, the woman was assaulted shortly before 4 p.m. when a man grabbed her buttocks while she walked along the trail near the intersection of Three Oaks Drive.
When the woman turned around to confront the man, he ran away along Three Oaks Drive, police say.
Abby Lowe is part of a girl track group. She's been walking the trail for years because of how safe it feels. She was shocked to hear about the assault.
She always shares her location with a friend and walks before dusk.
“Walking is part of my lifestyle. It’s part of my health and It won't deter me from walking out here. I’ll just be more alert. I will tell my other friends, walking friends, and community about this incident and just keep a vigilant eye out.” Lowe said.
The suspect was captured on security camera footage near the intersection of Manchester Road and Hamilton Avenue and can be seen below:
Detectives are investigating and say there will be increased patrols in the area. Anyone with information or camera footage is asked to contact the Park Police Tip Line at 301-929-2748 or CrimeTips@mncparkpolice.org.
