GERMANTOWN, Md. — A Germantown elementary school was briefly under lockdown Friday afternoon after police received word of a person with a gun near campus.
According to information posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, by the Montgomery County Department of Police, Waters Landing Elementary School began a lockdown around 4:15 p.m. to allow officers to investigate reports of an armed person near the school's campus on Waters Landing Drive.
By 4:35 p.m., police posted again that the lockdown was over, but that MCPD officers would remain at the school during dismissal.
There is no word on how close to campus the suspect was reported. No suspect information has been released.
According to the school's website, students are dismissed from classes at 3:50 p.m. However, there are after-school activities and office hours are listed online until 4:45 p.m.
