Crash on Intercounty Connector Montgomery County leaves 1 dead, police say

The cause of the crash is still under investigation

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — One person is dead and multiple people are injured after a multi-vehicle crash early Sunday morning. 

Around 4 a.m., multiple vehicles, crashed on the Intercounty Connector near Georgia Avenue in Maryland. Eight people were involved in the crash. One person died and at least five people are injured, according to Pete Piringer, chief spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue. 

One person is in critical condition, two people are in serious condition, another is in "bad" condition and one person sustained non-life threatening injuries, according to Piringer. Two people refused treatment.

Lanes were closed for about five hours Sunday morning, but have now open.

Responding officers found a silver Toyota Corolla, a purple Honda Odyssey and a black Nissan Rogue had all been involved in the crash. According to investigators with Maryland Transportation Authority Police, a passenger in the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene. It was initially reported that the crash also involved a tractor trailer, but that was not included in the latest update from police.

The driver of the Nissan, and another passenger, along with the driver of the Toyota were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries. The driver of the Honda and a passenger were taken to local hospitals with injuries thought to be minor. 

Investigators say the crash investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone who may have information about this crash is asked to call MDTA Police at 443-324-8898.
