Man slain on Christmas Eve along Ritchie Road

The victim was pronounced dead a short time later.

DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. — Police are investigating a deadly shooting in District Heights. 

According to the Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD), the shooting occurred just before 11:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve in the 2900 block of Ritchie Road. 

When officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot. First responders treated him at the scene until he was taken to an area hospital. 

Once there, medical staff worked to keep the man alive, but despite their efforts he died. The man has since been identified as 53-year-old Kevin Simmons of District Heights.

A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for any information leading to an arrest and indictment in this shooting.

Police do not believe this was a random act of violence. 

Anyone with information is asked to call Prince George’s County Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS or 301-516-2512 to speak directly with a Homicide Unit detective.
