CENTREVILLE, Va. — One person was killed in a fire early on Christmas morning, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue said.
Just after 4:30 a.m., firefighters responded to the 14100 block of Red River Drive in the Centreville area.
Fire crews arrived to flames shooting out of the back second story window of the townhome.
The fire was brought under control, but firefighters found a woman in the room where the blazes were ignited. Crews say they do not know if the victim died as a result of the fire or if she was dead prior to the blaze.
Our Matthew Torres spoke with neighbors who say they know at least two people live inside of the home.
Neighbors were concerned never imagining something like this to happen so close to their homes.
The victim's neighbor, Luca Pitasi says he didn't see the flames but could smell the smoke.
"I saw the lights, the fire department people come in my house so I didn't know what was going on." Pitasi told Torres.
No victim information has been released. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
What is supposed to be a happy occasion is now an unforgettable event in the neighborhood.
