Normal service resumed on Red Line after deer struck by Metro train caused delays

There is no word on if the deer is expected to survive.

ROCKVILLE, Md. — Metro customers were told to expect delays in both directions on the Red Line Thursday evening. This was due to a deer being struck by a train outside Rockville.

Officials reported the deer being struck on X, formerly known as Twitter, around 9:15 p.m.

The results -- single tracking between Shady Grove and Twinbrook Stations, resulting in delays for riders. At the time, transit officials had no details on how long delays would be in place for.

Just before 10:35 p.m., it was reported that the Red Line was no longer single tracking, but delays remained. Normal service resumed outside Rockville just after 11:35 p.m., less than two and a half hours after the initial report.

There is no word on if the deer is expected to survive.
