5 taken into custody after stolen car crashes into tree in Silver Spring

Five people were taken into custody after the chase turned crash. There is no word on what, if any, charges will be filed against them.

SILVER SPRING, Md. — Police have taken five people into custody following a short chase that ended with a reportedly stolen car crashing into a tree in Silver Spring Monday. 

According to the Montgomery County Department of Police, the chase started after an officer tried to pull a car over for a traffic stop near Georgia Avenue and 16th Street just before 12:30 p.m. Police say the car the officer tried to pull over was reported stolen. 

The driver, however, did not stop and instead drove away. The officer chased after the reportedly stolen vehicle, which then crashed into a tree near Dennis Avenue and Douglas Avenue. One person was evaluated following the crash for minor injuries but none required a trip to a hospital. 

Five people were taken into custody after the chase turned crash. There is no word on what, if any, charges will be filed against them.
