Ambulance stolen while EMS crews treated patient, 1 person arrested

The first responders were told there was a call for a "person down" inside a residence. When they were helping the person, someone stole their ambulance.

WASHINGTON — A woman has been taken into police custody for questioning after allegedly stealing an ambulance while its occupants were treating a patient Wednesday morning. 

According to DC Fire and EMS, crews were sent to the 3600 block of 22nd Street, Southeast, D.C. just before 10:40 a.m. The first responders were told there was a call for a "person down" inside a residence in the block. While the crews were inside treating the patient, a person was able to steal their ambulance outside. 

EMS personnel stayed on scene to finish treating their patient, who was transported by American Medical Response for further treatment.

The ambulance was found just down the block at 22nd and Savannah Street, Southeast. According to a source, the ambulance was not damaged but was taken to a shop for evaluation. 

No injuries were reported. 

The suspect, who is in custody, was identified as Francine Hilton, 46.
