WASHINGTON — Services at some Metro stations along the red line were suspended earlier due to reports of smoke inside the station. But, services have been restored.
According to Metro Rail’s X (formerly known as Twitter) services between Van Ness and Friendship Heights Metro Stations were suspended due Fire Department activity at Tenleytown.
There was a heavy fire department presence near the Tenleytown Metro Station. You could smell the smoke in the air from a fire. DC Fire and EMS immediately began evacuating the Target along Wisconsin Avenue. Albermarle Street was shut down as they worked to figure out the cause of the smoke.
We spoke to one of the members on the ground from the DC Fire and Rescue team to see what was going on.
They said at this time they believe the smoke is coming from inside of the Tenleytown Metro Station. Metro Rail tweeted saying services were suspended because of an arcing insulator at the Tenleytown station.
For now, Metro services between Van Ness and Friendship Heights have been restored. But Metro tweets that delays in both directions can be expected for a while.
