MONTGOMERY VILLAGE, Md. — Police in Montgomery County are investigating a shooting and working to bring a suspect into custody Monday afternoon. Investigators say the shooting and pursuit led to four schools being placed under shelter-in-place status.
Montgomery County Police Department spokesperson Shiera Goff said the shooting was first reported just before noon in the 20400 block of Lost Knife Circle in Montgomery Village.
Once on scene, officers found who who been shot and hit in the head with a machete by an unknown person. Police began pursuing a possible suspect in the shooting.
As a result of the police activity in the Walkers Choice area, several schools were sheltering in place for about two hours. According to the school district, the schools under shelter-in-place were:
- Watkins Mill Elementary School
- Stedwick Elementary School
- Montgomery Village Middle School
- Whetstone Elementary School
Police said all shelter-in-place orders were lifted just before 2 p.m.
Preliminarily, police said a man was shot and hit in the head with a machete by an unknown suspect. Police established perimeter and searched for the suspect, but did not find them.
The man shot was hospitalized with injuries not thought to be life-threatening.
