Alexandria boy raises money for county fire department | Get Uplifted

An 8-year-old organized a shaved ice stand to cool off his neighbors and give back to the fire department.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A young boy in Alexandria, Virginia is getting us uplifted this morning with his charitable efforts.

Eight-year-old Everett organized a shaved ice stand, not only to cool off his neighbors, but also to help first responders in his community — and the response was awesome.

With temperatures hitting almost 90 degrees, the refreshments were a big hit. And that’s not all; Everett had the idea of setting up the shaved ice stand with the goal of donating 50% of the earnings to the Fairfax County Fire Department.

Everett's mom Angela said he was inspired to give back to the fire department after they were so kind to him when he broke his arm, and he just wanted to do something kind back for them.

Everett's best friend Penny got in on the fun too by baking homemade rice crispy treats to sell alongside the shaved ice.

Everett and Penny together raised exactly $281 and, as promised, half of those earnings went to the fire department. With shaved ice being $2 and rice crispy treats selling for a dollar, they sold an impressive amount.
