WASHINGTON — A local coach who has gone above and beyond is getting us uplifted.
Michael Umpierre was just crowned the top little league baseball coach in the entire nation.
Umpierre is head coach for the D.C. Waterdogs — which is part of the Capitol City Little League. He received the most votes in the country for his work with young baseball players.
"I think to be an effective Little League coach, it's focusing on fun, it's focusing on growth, thinking about the bigger life lessons that we can glean from the sport, but it's always strength based and it's always positive and that's why I'm so just honored to be receiving this award," Umpierre said.
Coach Umpierre will be honored at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania on Aug. 17.
He'll also get to throw out the first pitch.
