ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Alexandria's own Noah Lyles won gold in the men's 100 meter — clocking in 0.005 of a second before Kishane Thompson of Jamaica to win the title. But what's getting us uplifted today is the Olympian’s comments after he grabbed the gold.
Lyles dedicated his victory to his late coach at Alexandria City High School, Rashawn Jackson, who died just over a month ago.
“I thought he was going to be here to see it, I know he is watching," Lyles said after his historic win.
Lyles also posted an inspiring message to others to go for their dreams on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
"I have Asthma, allergies, dyslexia, ADD, anxiety, and Depression. But I will tell you that what you have does not define what you can become. Why Not You!" Lyles wrote in the post.
And the city of Alexandria loves Lyles right back. There will be a watch party during what is considered his best event, the men's 200 meter, on Thursday. The party will be held at his alma mater, Alexandria City High School.
