Teenage entrepreneur hosts community event, chess tournament for back-to-school | Get Uplifted

Miles Davis is 16 and already has his own clothing brand and is a chess tournament director.

WASHINGTON — A community event this Saturday that offers everything from a grocery and back-to-school give-away to a chess tournament complete with trophies is getting us uplifted.

It's all led by an amazing young entrepreneur from the DMV.

Miles Davis, 16, is the CEO of his own clothing brand, “Be Empowered Clothing,” a chess tournament director and a climate change leader with one simple goal: to leave an impact on his community.

"If I'm able to leave people with a good impact, teach them some good things and they are able to get some inspiration from me, then I've reached my goal," Davis said.

This Saturday, the teenage CEO from Maryland is organizing a community event. The event will be held at Anne Beers Elementary School in southeast D.C. There will be a backpack giveaway, health and wellness information, performances and a kid vendor market, among other attractions.

For Davis, it is all about empowering other young people by creating opportunities, featuring his first love — chess.

"Chess teaches you a lot about strategy and being an entrepreneur you need to be able to look ahead and be able to pay attention to detail,” Davis said. “Those are the most important things about chess for me.”

Davis plans on studying computer science in college, continuing with his clothing brand and serving his community with events like Saturday's "Back To School Community Empowerment Day.”

Registration is required for the chess tournament. You can register here.

This is just Davis’ latest community event and chess tournament. He directed his first chess tournament at just 14.
