It seems like the DMV can't catch a break when it comes to the wet weekend weather patterns.
In fact, there has been measurable rainfall for the last five consecutive weekends. We are also on track to see more than half the days in May with rain.
But when you look back at the forecast, it really hasn't been that wet...
So will that pattern continue into Memorial Day weekend?
The majority of Memorial Day weekend will be dry, but you will need to plan around some showers and storms.
Saturday
The start of the holiday weekend will be quite nice with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies Saturday and temperatures in the mid 80s.
After 7 p.m. or so on Saturday, a line of showers and embedded thunderstorms will rumble through. Plan on isolated showers and storms possible through 11 p.m.
If you have outdoor plans Saturday, especially toward evening, just make sure you have a place to safely seek shelter if a storm comes rumbling through while you're outside. If you have outdoor plans Saturday night like the Kenny Chesney concert at Commanders Field, have a plan to take shelter in case a storm rumbles through. Worst case scenario would be an hour or two delay, but most likely, storms will hold off until closer to the second half of the concert, or perhaps even the end.
Sunday
The pick of the holiday weekend is definitely Sunday. It will be a sun-filled day with warm temperatures in the upper 80s! A stray shower or storm is possible, but not until later in the evening and most folks will stay dry.
Monday
Unfortunately the holiday on Monday is looking like the wettest day with periods of rain and storms for much of the day. It won't rain all day, but it will be a day where it's hard to make plans around the off and on showers and storms. The morning looks much better than the afternoon and evening. Some storms could be strong to severe with the majority of them happening after 4 p.m.
So here are 3 things you can do with this information.
1. Check back on the forecast frequently as this is a rapidly changing situation.
2. Make sure if you have outdoor plans, you also have a place to seek shelter if showers or storms roll through, especially on Saturday.
3. Download the WUSA9 App so you can track the radar and see where the rain is located in real-time.
