BRAMBLETON, Va. — An investigation is underway in Loudoun County after a school bus crash sent four of its passengers to the hospital on Tuesday.
Just after noon, officers responded to the area of Evergreen Mills Road and Ryan Road in Brambleton after a crash involving a school bus and an SUV.
The bus, which came from Creighton's Corner Elementary School, had 19 passengers onboard when the crash occurred – 12 of which were students and seven adults.
Four people were taken to area hospitals to be treated after the crash. Loudoun County Public Schools said three of those people were on the bus. The injuries were minor.
The remaining bus passengers were taken back to the elementary school.
At this time, it is unclear if the bus passengers who were taken to the hospital were students or adults. Everyone on the bus was on their way to a field trip when the crash occurred.
Hazmat crews were called to help contain a leak from the school bus fuel tank, which was damaged during the collision.
Currently, a portion of Evergreen Mills Road remains closed for investigation. Drivers in the area are being told to expect a heavy police presence.
