Crash on Beltway outer loop causes slowdown in Fairfax County

Delays begin near South Van Dorn Street.

FAIRFAX, Va. — A crash briefly blocked all northbound lanes  on the outer loop of the Beltway before Telegraph Road Wednesday morning. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes while the crash investigation is underway.

The crash was first reported just before 10:30 a.m. Traffic was being diverted to the local lanes while police work to determine exactly what happened. Initially, the crash was reported as involving multiple vehicles, with at least one person hurt. Investigators later said the crash involved on vehicle and no one was hurt.

By 11 a.m., traffic officials said the incident was contained to the gore area between the through and local lanes. All lanes were back open to traffic, but delays remained.

Fairfax County Police traffic investigators have not determined the cause of the crash.
