DAVIDSONVILLE, Md. — A pedestrian is dead after they were hit by a driver on U.S. Route 50 in Anne Arundel County Monday morning. Police are still investigating exactly what happened.
Around 4:30 a.m. on Monday, Maryland State Police troopers responded to the area of eastbound Route 50, west of Maryland Route 424, for a report of a vehicle in the road. When troopers got to the scene, they found a vehicle that was inoperable on the right shoulder in the area of the crash.
Investigators learned that the pedestrian crossed over the westbound span of Route 50 to the eastbound span, and was struck by a driver in a Lexus heading east. The driver of the Lexus stayed at the scene of the crash. No other injuries were reported.
Two lanes of Route 50 were closed for the crash investigation early Monday, but have since reopened. Police have not yet identified the person who died, pending next of kin notification.
The crash investigation is active and ongoing, police said.
