WASHINGTON — Metro Transit Police arrested a man accused of tampering with power sources along the Green Line and causing major train delays.
According to the police, the suspect, Edward Nathaniel Walker, 31, of Temple Hills, Maryland, de-energized the power lines at the Southern Avenue Station on Friday. The incident caused the suspension of service on the Green line and power disruption at the Southern Avenue station.
On Friday, Trains were temporarily suspended on the Green Line Service between the Navy Yard and Branch Avenue stations for two hours around 3:30 p.m., Metro tweeted. Shuttle buses were provided to customers impacted by the service suspension.
Metro personnel were able to restore the power by 5:20 p.m. and normal service resumed on the Green line.
Walker was charged with trespassing, malicious destruction of property, and interference with the railroad.
