WASHINGTON — Editor's Note: The video above was published on Dec. 9, 2021, following the board's decision.
Several metro stations will be operating under new names starting Sunday, Sept. 11.
The name changes, which will be reflected on signage and maps across the system was approved by the Metro Board of Directors in Dec. 2021.
Travelers will see the changes immediately on digital maps throughout all rail stations and on bus displays, as well at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATAA) website and Trip Planner.
The name changes are as follows:
- White Flint will become North Bethesda
- Largo Town Center will become Downtown Largo
- Tysons Corner will become Tysons
- Prince George’s Plaza will become Hyattsville Crossing
- West Falls Church secondary name VT/UVA will become VT only.
WMATA reports that signs at the White Flint and Largo Town Center stations have already started being updated to reflect their new names.

Montgomery County residents are just not having it after the WMATA board voted to rename the White Flint Metro stop North Bethesda.
