Car fire causes major backup on I-95 in Woodbridge

Delays are building Wednesday morning.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A car fire is snarling morning traffic in Woodbridge, Virginia Wednesday. Prince William County police responded to the reported fire in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 past Exit 158 around 6:30 a.m.

Officers and first responders shut down all lanes between Prince William Parkway and Gordon Boulevard to bring the fire under control and investigate what happened. Just before 7 a.m., police said traffic was getting by the scene using the right shoulder, but the slowdown stretched back two miles, with delays beginning near Dale Boulevard. By 7:45 a.m., traffic officials said all lanes were back open, but delays remained.

Express Lanes remain open to detour around the fire.

Police have not said whether anyone was hurt in the fire, and have not said how the fire may have started.
