Spotsylvania crash involves tractor-trailer carrying hazardous material

One lane is open, but heavy traffic is expected south of Fredericksburg. Traffic authorities recommend taking an alternate route.

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Commuters may face some delays heading south on I-95 Tuesday morning after a tractor-trailer carrying hazardous material was involved in a crash near Fredericksburg, near the Spotsylvania exit. 

According to traffic officials, as of 6:55 a.m., two southbound lanes are now open in Spotsylvania County at mile marker 126. One southbound lane of I-95 remains closed at the scene. Heavy traffic is expected south of Fredericksburg. Traffic authorities recommend taking an alternate route, such as Route 301. Exit 126 is still open and the off ramp there is accessible.

People traveling from the Fredericksburg area should expect traffic on southbound Route 1 and connecting routes.

Emergency responders are on scene. Authorities say the lanes may be closed for an extended period while they address the hazardous material and assess the road for any damage.

All northbound lanes remain open in the area of Exit 126. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. First responders have not reported any injuries as a result of the crash.
