CHARLES COUNTY, Md. — A Maryland mother is mourning the loss of her son. Cyrus Amado Salazar Jr., 17, passed away on Tuesday from injuries caused by a car crash.
On Monday morning, Maryland State Troopers were called to Maryland Route 229 for reports of a serious car crash.
When they arrived, investigators discovered that the collision was more serious than first reported. Salazar Jr. was rushed to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for treatment.
According to a preliminary investigation conducted by Troopers, Salazar Jr. was traveling northbound on Maryland Route 229 as he was approaching a curve in the roadway, and it seems he wasn’t able to make it. As a result, Salazar Jr. drove off the right side of the roadway, striking numerous trees. Unfortunately, he was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the car.
Investigators believe the collision was caused by driver error and speed.
This is an ongoing investigation. Law enforcement is asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact Sergeant J. Zimmerman of the Maryland State Police Crash Team at 301-392-1231.
