Mother of brothers critically injured in Falls Church wreck desperate for full recovery for her boys

Six teenagers in Fairfax County suffered life-threatening injuries after an SUV went off the road, hit a tree, and rolled over around 5 a.m. on Monday.

FALLS CHURCH, Va. — Among the six teenagers critically injured in a Falls Church crash on Monday are two brothers, according to their mother, Ana Alberto.

Fairfax County Police said a 17-year-old person driving an SUV lost control, hit a tree, and rolled over into a neighbor’s front yard at Shreve Road and Pioneer Lane. The violent incident happened around 5 a.m.

Investigators said speed and alcohol played a factor. The teen driver may have been arrested on scene, but charges are pending as the investigation continues.

Police said as the SUV rolled over, five of the passengers were ejected. One of them was trapped and had to be extricated.

Alberto said her two sons remained at the hospital in stable condition.

“Right now, I feel like everything has fallen apart,” she told WUSA9 over the phone.  “I'm hoping for a miracle for every one of them. I don’t feel like giving information because I feel like everything is crashing down.”

Alberto is a single mother with three other children. She spent most of her day on Tuesday at the hospital tending to her two sons.

The teenagers involved in the crash ranged from 14 to 17 years old. Some of them are students at Marshall High School.

“At this time, we are still gathering details and are waiting for news of those who are in the hospital,” the principal said in a community letter. “Students are slowly hearing the names of the teens who were involved. Our psychologist and social worker, along with our school counselors are available to provide support.”

Alberto avoided saying much about the investigation since she wants her focus to be on the recovery of her children. She’s relying on her faith and support from loved ones.

“God first is going to do the miracle so that they can be a testimony for all young people,” she added.

When asked about their injuries, all Alberto could say was her mind has been so “fogged up” that it’s hard to remember details from the doctor.

One of the first people to witness the teenagers after the crash was George Harris. The SUV landed in his front yard. Audio dispatch recorded how the teens were thrown from the car and landed in different parts of the block.

“It was traumatizing,” Harris said. “I just hope to God they’re okay. Hopefully they’ll make full recoveries.”
