Juvenile dies after losing control of car, striking driver headed in the opposite direction on Richmond Highway

Richmond Highway closed in both directions between Mount Pleasant Drive and Occoquan Road after the crash.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A 17-year-old boy from Woodbridge has died following a crash on Richmond Highway early Sunday morning.

At 4:51 a.m. on March 10, officers responded to the intersection of Richmond Highway and Easy Street in Woodbridge to investigate a crash.

An investigation revealed the driver of a 2016 Toyota Corolla was speeding southbound on Richmond Highway earlier that morning. At one point, the driver lost control, crossing over the median in the northbound lanes. This is when the driver struck a 2023 Chrysler Pacifica headed in the opposite direction.

Police say the driver and only occupant of the Corolla, a 17-year-old boy, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and a passenger in the Pacifica were taken to an area hospital for help with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators say speed is a factor in the collision.

Due to the age of the driver who died, investigators say their identity will not be released to the public.

The driver of the 2023 Chrysler Pacifica was identified as a 42-year-old woman from Manassas, and the passenger was identified as a 46-year-old man from Chantilly

The investigation into this deadly crash is active and ongoing.
