Police investigate fatal car collision in Montgomery County, that left 2 injured

A preliminary investigation revealed that a white Mercedes and white GMC pickup truck were traveling northbound on Connecticut Ave. suddenly, the cars collided.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — The Montgomery County Police department is investigating a fatal collision that claimed the life of a man. 

On Saturday, Montgomery County Fire Rescue and officers were called to Connecticut Avenue and Quincy Street, for reports of a fatal traffic collision, involving two cars.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a white Mercedes and white GMC pickup truck were traveling northbound on Connecticut Ave. when suddenly, the cars collided. After the initial contact, the pickup truck struck a pole and several trees while the Mercedes overturned. 

The man driving the pickup truck, 29-year-old, Jobani Alfredo Cruz of D.C., was pronounced dead at the scene. 

An adult passenger was traveling in the pickup truck during the time of the crash. They were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries, along with the driver of the Mercedes.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit has taken over the investigation.
