Man arrested in connection to Virginia hotel shooting

Police arrested 43-year-old Hiep Van Vo, 43.

MERRIFIELD, Va. — Police arrested a man wanted for murder after shooting a Maryland man in a Merrifield hotel room.

Detectives arrested 43-year-old Hiep Van Vo, who they say shot and killed Charles Anthony Ashe, Jr. in the early morning hours Sunday.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting at just before 1 a.m. at the Falls Church Marriott Fairview in Merrifield. Officers found Ashe shot in the upper body near the elevators.

Fairfax County firefighters were on scene at the hotel on an unrelated call and were able to respond. Ashe was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Major Crimes detectives determined that Ashe and Vo knew each other. They do not believe the shooting was random. Detectives believe Ashe entered Vo's hotel room, and once inside the room, Vo shot Ashe. Four other people were in the room at the time of the shooting, but no one else was hurt.

Ashe was able to leave the room, and was carried to the elevator by friends who heard the gunshots. Meanwhile, Vo left the hotel but police announced his arrest on Monday.
