Driver in deadly I-95 crash runs from scene, police say

Virginia State Police are following up on leads to find the driver.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A man is dead after a tractor trailer and a car collided on Interstate 95 in Prince William County early Sunday morning. Virginia State Police troopers are investigating the crash.

According to the investigators, the crash happened around 5 a.m. when troopers responded to the two-vehicle crash. The tractor trailer and the sedan collided in the southbound lanes of I-95 at mile marker 156. The tractor trailer struck a pillar supporting a fly-over ramp, which caused the trailer to rip open and spill its contents, according to Corinne Geller, a spokesperson for VSP.

While the driver of the sedan was being treated by medical personnel at the scene of the crash, he left the ambulance and ran away on foot, Gellar said. VSP troopers are following up on several leads to find him.

Meanwhile, the driver of the tractor trailer, who has only been identified as a man, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The crash investigation remains active and ongoing. No other details have been made public.
