STAFFORD, Va. — A wanted man was arrested Monday for trying to steal thousands of dollars in Christmas decorations from a Virginia Lowe's store, the Stafford County Sheriff's Office said.
Sheriff's deputies arrested 64-year-old Alphonsus Anthony for grand larceny and other charges.
Deputies were called to the Lowe's located at 1330 Stafford Market Place just after noon for a report of trespassing. Lowe's staff members told deputies Anthony was trying to make off with a cart full of stolen stuff. He had grabbed several boxes of Christmas lights, a tree and ornaments. He also tried to steal a power washer, deputies said. Investigators found even more stolen merchandise inside Anthony's truck.
Deputies say this wasn't the first time Anthony had stolen from a Lowe's store. He had two outstanding warrants for larceny at a different Lowe's.
Anthony was served with his outstanding warrants and taken into custody by deputies. He is being held a the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
