CENTREVILLE, Va. — A man is in custody after police said he shot and killed a dog in Centerville, Virginia on Friday.
The shooting happened in the 13300 block of Connor Drive, the Fairfax County Police Department said.
According to the preliminary investigation, police said the man shot the dog after an argument with another man. The suspect then ran into a nearby apartment before surrendering to police. The man has been identified as 33-year-old Roman Vyacheslavov Gorelo. Officers contacted Gorelov by phone, and he surrendered to police.
The dog that was shot was taken to a veterinarian where it later died.
Detectives responded to assist with the investigation.
No other injuries were reported and there is no active threat to the community at this time.
