Months after a 14-year-old girl was shot and wounded during a carnival on the grounds of Gar-Field High School, investigators say a 16-year-old boy has been arrested and charged for the crime.
The boy, who was not identified because of his age, is accused of firing several shots in the parking lot of the school located at 14000 Smoketown Road in Woodbridge, back on April 15. One of the rounds struck a 14-year-old girl who was also in the parking lot at the time, according to police in Prince William County.
Detectives worked to identify the suspect and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives provided assistance during the investigation and offered a reward for information in the case.
On Nov. 9, the 16-year-old boy was charged with malicious wounding, possession of a firearm by a juvenile, discharging a firearm while on school property, discharging a firearm in a public place resulting in bodily injury. He remains in custody at the Prince William County Juvenile Detention Center where he was already being held on unrelated charges.
