1 hospitalized in shooting near Northern Virginia hotel

Police say there is no threat to the community.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Police in Alexandria are working to learn what led to a shooting near a hotel late Monday night. Alexandria Police Department officers were called to the 5000 block of Seminary Road, near the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center for a reported shooting just before midnight. 

When officers got to the scene, they found someone shot. That person was taken to an area hospitals with injuries described as serious. Police took someone into custody for the shooting, and recovered a weapon at the scene. Investigators say there is no ongoing threat to the community.

Police are still working to figure out exactly what led to the shooting. Investigators did not share any information about the person who was shot, or the person who was in custody. They also did not say whether the shooting took place inside the hotel. 

A large police presence was seen in the area overnight, but has since cleared. The investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone who may have information that would help investigators is asked to contact Alexandria Police at 703-746-4444.
