Fundraiser started for father of two who was shot, killed while working as a snow plow driver outside a Maryland school

Alex Garcia Ramirez leaves behind his wife and two daughters, 11 and 8 years old.

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. — A Maryland family is asking for help from the community after losing their father and husband in a shooting.

Investigators say Alex Garcia Ramirez was working as a private snow plow driver, clearing the parking lot of a Montessori school in Ellicott City, when he was shot.

A GoFundMe to help his family cover burial and funeral costs has been created here. As of Monday afternoon, organizers said $6,583 had been raised towards the $15,000 goal.

Ramirez leaves behind his wife and two daughters, ages 11 and eight.

On Wednesday, Jan. 17, detectives say Ramirez was working as a private snow plow driver clearing the parking lot of a Montessori school in the 4400 block of Montgomery Road in Ellicott City when he was shot. He was found by a passerby outside his truck in the parking lot around 8:45 a.m.  Police say he was taken to an area hospital for help, where he later died.

Detectives learned that Garcia was scheduled to clear the parking lot early in the morning and may have been shot hours before he was found.

So far, no arrests have been made and a motive has not been determined. Police do not believe this shooting was random.
