Collision on I-495 Beltway at River Road

Authorities say a truck trailer struck a bridge and a car. There are no fatalities reported as of now.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — The Maryland State Police Department and Montgomery County Fire and EMS teams are investigating a vehicle accident on the inner loop of I-495 (Beltway) at River Road.

Montgomery County Fire and Ems determined a truck trailer struck a bridge and a passenger vehicle, and reported it on their X account:

Maryland State Police told WUSA9 that a commercial motor vehicle (truck and tractor combo) was traveling on the inner loop of I-495 prior to River Road when the boom of the trailer activated, causing the bed to lift in the air.

Subsequently, the trailer struck the bridge on River Road, which is over Interstate 495. All the while, a white Dodge Charger was traveling behind the commercial motor vehicle and sustained damage as it was involved in the crash.

At the same time, a Dodge Ram was traveling on the opposite side of I-495 when it was struck in the windshield with a large piece of metal that lodged in the windshield and dashboard of the Dodge.

WUSA9 is gathering further details on the condition of the injured and can confirm both drivers were taken to nearby hospitals.

While no road closures occurred as a result of this crash, the cause of the collision remains under investigation.
