111 residents displaced from apartment fire in Largo

When firefighters arrived, the fire had been extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system.

LARGO, Md. — A fire in Prince George’s County has left more than 100 residents displaced.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Prince George’s County Fire and EMS crew received calls of a fire at the Largo Landing apartment building.

When crews arrived, the fire had been extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system. The water damage required the electric service to be temporarily disconnected in the building.

The six-story senior independent living facility is home to 111 residents, with 106 units. Due to the loss of electricity and water, the building has been deemed uninhabitable. Residents will have to relocate until repairs are completed.

An estimate of property damage has not been given. Nor do we know how long the repairs will take.

The fire is still under investigation. Prince George’s County Fire Department has not released a cause for the fire. Crews are still on the scene assisting residents find shelter for tonight.

Tonight’s temperatures are expected to be in the 30s. This is cause for concern, with many counties issuing hypothermia alerts for tonight.
