GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A Silver Spring man is under arrest for his role in a string of apartment burglaries.
Tremaine McDowell, 41, was arrested and charged after officers responded to his home on an unrelated call and noticed piles of Apple MacBooks, iPhones, and other expensive electronics.
Detectives with the Montgomery County Department of Police had been investigating a series of burglaries that occurred between June and November in the Lenox Park Apartments, The Veridian, and the Arrive Apartments.
During the course an the investigation, detectives developed McDowell as a suspect.
On Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 9:49 p.m., officers responded to a home in the 8700 block of 1st Avenue in Silver Spring for a report of a domestic-related assault involving McDowell. While at the home, officers noticed piles of Apple MacBooks, iPhones, AirPods, and other expensive electronics in the living room. McDowell had left the scene before officers arrived.
After getting a search warrant for McDowell's apartment, detectives found even more evidence, including apartment building fobs and three loaded firearm magazines.
Tuesday evening, at 7:45 p.m., McDowell was arrested and taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he was charged with multiple burglary-related charges and domestic violence-related crimes.
Police say he is currently being held without bond.
Detectives want to remind residents to lock their apartment doors even when they live in a secure apartment complex.
