LAUREL, Md. — A Prince George’s County Police officer has been suspended and placed on house arrest following an alleged domestic incident in Laurel early Tuesday morning.
Court documents obtained by WUSA9 describe the scene of the alleged domestic incident involving Corporal Robert Harvin III smashing his wife's iPhone and assaulting her after she reportedly caught him on the phone with his mistress.
According to the charging documents, police responded to an “officer in trouble” call at a Laurel townhome. An investigation of the Harvins' in-home security cameras allegedly revealed Robert Harvin III as the main aggressor, the documents claim.
Harvin's wife reportedly told police she confronted Harvin III while he was on the phone with his mistress. Allegedly, an argument broke out that turned physical. Harvin's wife said said her husband broke her iPhone, pushed her, dragged her to the floor and put her in a chokehold, according to the charging documents. She claimed in the report that once she was able to break free, she grabbed Harvin's department-issued police radio and called for help.
Harvin III claims the physical altercation was “mutual, like ‘Matrix’,” according to court documents. He also said he was injured when his wife bit his upper arm by mistake amidst her yelling and screaming, and an officer allegedly observed bite marks on him while another officer observed strangulation marking and bruising on the wife, according to the charging documents.
An investigation of the couple's Google Nest kitchen camera revealed Harvin III as the main aggressor, according to court documents. The footage allegedly shows Harvin's wife “yelling and screaming for him to get away from her. Their doorbell camera footage also shows him “actively assaulting [his wife] by dragging and punching her,” court documents claim.
Harvin III appeared in court Wednesday for charges of second-degree assault and malicious destruction of property. Prosecutors recommended that he be held without bond, but the court ordered him to be “placed under private home detention with strict conditions, including no contact with the victim and a mandatory stay-away order,” according to a statement from Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Harvin's trial is set for July 8.
