GAITHERSBURG, Md. — Police are asking for the public's help to find a man who tried to abduct a young girl in Gaithersburg over the weekend. The 10-year-old girl told police a stranger grabbed her arm and told her to come with him.
Montgomery County Police Special Victims detectives said officers responded to the Cider Mill Apartments in the 18300 block of Lost Knife Road on Sunday, March 10, around 3 p.m. That's near South Lake Elementary School. The girl told responding officers she was sitting outside the apartment when the man grabbed her.
The man is described as being in his late teens or early 20s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall with a thin build. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a black jacket over it, black cargo pants, sneakers and a ski mask covering his mouth.
The girl told police she thought the man ran away after seeing police cars in the neighborhood.
Detectives are actively investigating, and the police department is stepping up patrols in the area in an effort to find the man.
Anyone who may have information about the case or a possible suspect is asked to call 240-773-5400 or call 1-866-411-TIPS. Tips with information leading to an arrest may be eligible for a reward from $250 up to $10,000, the police department says.
