Jamell LeeHeung II, 25, of Indian Head, was last seen on Nov. 25, 2023.

Earlier in December, the Charles County Dive Rescue team found LeeHeung's vehicle submerged in Mattawoman Creek near Slavin's Dock in Indian Head

On Dec. 28, 2023 around 10:30 a.m., the Charles County Sheriff’s Office got a call about a body of a man being found in Mattawoman Creek. The sheriff's office said the body was found about two miles from Slavin's Dock – the location where LeeHeung was last seen.

Family told WUSA9 on Friday morning that the body had been identified as LeeHeung, and the sheriff's office later confirmed it.

Jamell leaves behind his wife, Kayla and their two children who are still trying to understand why their dad isn’t coming home.

“I was worried about not finding him for a long time and having to live with the uncertainty and the wondering where he was and if he was suffering.” Jamell LeeHeung Sr., said.

LeeHeung's father told WUSA9 the circumstances surrounding his death are still unclear.

The family requested a full autopsy from the Maryland examiner’s office. They’re hoping those results will give them the answers they’ve been looking for.

“He was in fairly decent condition, no obvious signs of trauma. We are just waiting to see what they found internally.” LeeHeung's father said.

They family has a GoFundMe page set up to help with funeral expenses and to start a college fund for his two boys.

Family is remembering LeeHeung as a loving father, son and a good solider.

“It’s a good thing, we can send him home the way he should be. He’s not in the water anymore and we can move on or at least start the process of moving on.” LeeHeung's father said.

WUSA9 will stay in touch with family as they wait for autopsy result.
