GAITHERSBURG, Md. — Police say a man is being charged in connection with the death of his relative he was taking care of.
At 7:07 p.m. on Dec. 1, officers were dispatched to apartments in the 1500 block of Heather Hollow Circle in Silver Spring. At the scene, officers found a man in a wheelchair. The victim, Leon Perkins, of Silver Spring, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say Perkins was being cared for by 55-year-old Charles Parker, a family relative. Parker called Perkins' wife to report that her husband had fallen. When she responded to the apartment, she found her husband dead.
Perkins’ body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where an autopsy was conducted, and details of the autopsy are pending.
Through the course of the investigation, detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police identified Parker as a suspect.
On Wednesday, Parker was served an arrest warrant for Perkins’ death and taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit where he is being held without bond.
