MARYLAND, USA — On Thursday, 42-year-old Terry Tompkins from Temple Hills was sentenced for a string of theft. Judge McAuliffe of the Montgomery County Circuit Court sentenced Tompkins to serve four years in prison and five years of probation following his release.
Tompkins’ troubles began on December 19, 2022, when he pleaded guilty to one count of robbery and three counts of theft, all stemming from four different incidents at hardware stores during June and July of 2022.
One of the boldest incidents during Tompkins’ criminal spree happened on July 30, 2022, when he boldly walked out of an Ace Hardware store in Silver Spring with a cart full of unpaid items. When a store employee tried to record the theft on his phone, Tompkins attacked the employee, stole his phone, and fled the scene.
Tompkins’ criminal activities extend beyond the theft at the Silver Spring hardware store. He was charged in five different Maryland counties, for over a dozen thefts during the summer of 2022. Even after he pled guilty in December, he continued to steal from multiple stores while out on bond awaiting his sentencing.
