Police: Two people arrested for robbing 7-Eleven stores at gunpoint

Police say the suspects were taken into custody and charged with multiple counts of armed robbery, assault, theft and firearms related charges.

SILVER SPRING, Md. — Two suspects are being held without bond in Montgomery County for their alleged involvement in two separate 7-Eleven armed robberies.

Investigators say Stephen Lavance Oates, Jr., 35, and Katrice Ceclia Wood, 29, have been arrested and charged for two armed robberies that they allegedly committed on Jan. 8 and Jan. 10.

On Jan. 8, at 2:52 a.m., officers with the Montgomery County Police Department responded to a 7-Eleven in the 14100 block of Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring for a report of a robbery. Police say two masked suspects walked into the convenience store and demanded the employees to stay still. One of the suspects then pulled out a gun, while the other sprayed an employee with pepper spray. Investigators say the suspects stole an undisclosed amount of money from the register and the employee's cellphone, before fleeing the scene in a Ford Expedition.

On Jan. 10, at 4:21 a.m., officers responded to another 7-Eleven in the 11300 block of Lockwood Drive for the report of a robbery. Detectives determined that the same two masked suspects entered the store. One suspect pulled out a gun and demanded the employees' cellphones, to which employees complied. The suspects then stole scratch-off lottery tickets and an undisclosed amount of money from the register before taking off once again in a Ford Expedition.

After an investigation, detectives identified the robbery suspects as Oates, Jr. and Wood. Both suspects were located in the 3500 block of Old Annapolis Road in Laurel.

Police say the suspects were taken into custody and charged with multiple counts of armed robbery, assault, theft and firearms related charges.
