Pets die in 2-alarm apartment fire in Maryland

Two dozen people were displaced by the fire, according to firefighters.

OXON HILL, Md. — Two dozen people are without a place to live after a fire at an apartment building in Oxon Hill Wednesday morning. The fire at the three-story apartment building was first reported around 9:30 a.m.

When firefighters arrived on scene in the 5500 block of Livingston Terrace, they called a second alarm to get more help to the scene. The fire was burning in the attic. Crews quickly got the fire under control.

Firefighters said an adolescent and a firefighter were hospitalized with minor injuries. In addition to the apartment residents, two dogs and one bird died in the blaze. 

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Prince George's County Fire Department.

Additional details were not immediately available.
