5-year-old girl killed after being hit by car at DC gas station identified

Police identified the girl as Zyina Crump of Southeast, D.C.

WASHINGTON — Police have identified the 5-year-old girl killed after being hit by a driver on Tuesday. She is 5-year-old Zyina Crump, according to crash investigators. 

According to the preliminary investigation, the crash happened just before 4 p.m. at the BP gas station in the 2500 block Pennsylvania Avenue Southeast. The driver was heading southbound through the parking lot when Zyina ran across the parking lot. Police said she was struck when she ran into the vehicle's path. 

The girl was taken to an area hospital for treatment, but she died. The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. 

Police are still investigating. It is not clear where the girl's family was when she was hit.
